AOL has a nasty habit of trying to conserve bandwidth at your expense. The default installation of AOL uses compressed graphics to speed up load times of pictures. This will cause a JPEG image capable of displaying 16.7 million colors to only be seen in 256 colors, and they will look terrible.
To turn off compressed graphics, press:
